Why are my emails being deleted automatically?

  • The most common issue for this is if you set up your email as IMAP in Mailbird and also set it up as POP3 in other email clients. When you do this, once your other email clients download the email from your server, it will then delete it from the server. Since Mailbird is using IMAP it will always sync to the email server and will also delete the email from Mailbird. Which is why it might seems missing.
  • If you have this issue go to your email provider webmail and check if the email is still there. If it's not there then Mailbird is already working correctly. If it's there, please contact us at support@getmailbird.com

    Hi,

    I have the opposite problem.
Once you set up imap accounts, I can't find how to set to automatically delete emails from the server once I download them on my pc.

    Hi,

I'm having the same issue as indicated by Diego.

The emails in mailbird are not getting deleted from the mail server and so it becomes full after some time.

Not able to find the setting to set the time emails should be kept on server as well.

Please help to the necessary settings.

    Thanks,

    Mehul

if im correct... if you use imap and are using several devices for checking email.. those emails have to stay on the server so they can stay in sync with all your devices... pc, tab, phone... if you delete an email and then delete your trash from any of the email devices, the server should then be cleared of those emails... also make sure to delete any unwanted sent items in the sent folder as they will also take up space on the server.

I'll see if this helps :-)  If You use POP3 access INSTEAD of IMAP, you do get the choice of deleting the messages from the server when downloaded to your device, and a few (If I'm remembering it correctly, because I don't use them - I do straight delete) options as to how long to leave them prior to deleting (a delay option; I'm assuming that someone at one time, perhaps the programmers at Mailbird - if it's controlled client side, or the mail protocol developers some time ago, if server side) had an "Oh S**T moment when they unhappily discovered a good use for that option!  :-)  Try when first setting up the account, after adding your name and the email account in the first box, and clicking next, don't type the password in the next box and continue - click the link for "Edit server settings" above the password field.  I think there you will find all the options that you will need to solve any of your client side issues, and some server side issues as well.  :-)

    Hope this helps :-)  Namaste

    Hello, good evening.

I´d like to keep it in POP mode: I chose when I delete from both points, webmail and MailBird. Because I downloaded a message to MailBird, it does not mean necessarily that I want it off of my webmail. How can I set this?

    Thanks,

    Lena
