🧭 Overview
In this article, we’ll explain which versions of Windows are supported by Mailbird and why support for some older versions has been discontinued.
🏗️ Mailbird and the Microsoft .NET Framework
Mailbird is built on the Microsoft .NET Framework, which means our app's compatibility is closely tied to Microsoft’s support for specific versions of Windows.
We aim to support as many Windows versions as possible. However, if Microsoft ends support for a particular version, we may also be forced to discontinue support, especially when critical security updates or .NET Framework improvements are no longer available.

🌐 Mailbird and Google Chromium
Additionally, Mailbird uses Google Chromium as its internal browser. This is the same technology behind Google Chrome, and it used for composing emails, viewing content, and running various features which Mailbird offers its customers.
Unfortunately, Chromium no longer supports versions of Windows below Windows 10, such as:
-
Windows 8 / 8.1
-
Windows 7
-
Any earlier versions
This is entirely outside of our control and directly impacts Mailbird’s ability to function on these older operating systems.
✅ Currently Supported Versions of Windows
Mailbird currently supports the following Windows versions:
-
Windows 10
-
Windows 11
