POP3 and IMAP are two different email protocols (or methods) which are used to access emails.
Of the two protocols, IMAP is the much more convenient option - as well as the one we would generally recommend - for when you need to check your emails from multiple devices, such as from a work laptop, a home computer, or a tablet, smartphone, or any other mobile device. With IMAP, you can literally access your emails from anywhere and from any device.
On the other hand, POP3 downloads emails from an email server to a single computer, and then deletes them permanently from the email server. Therefore, because your emails are downloaded to a single computer or device and then immediately deleted from the server each time you access your inbox, it can appear as though emails are missing or have disappeared from your inbox if you check your email inbox from a different computer or device than your usual one.
