📧 What is IMAP
IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) is a standard protocol used by email clients to retrieve messages from a mail server. It allows you to access and manage your email from multiple devices while keeping everything in sync.
⚙️ IMAP Setup in Mailbird
When connecting an IMAP email account to Mailbird, keep the following in mind:
-
Mailbird will automatically try to detect the server settings for your email address.
-
If automatic detection fails, you’ll need to enter the server settings manually.
Mailbird supports all email providers that offer IMAP.
🔍 Finding IMAP & SMTP Settings
-
Most email providers list their IMAP (incoming) and SMTP (outgoing) settings on their websites.
-
You can also visit our Mail Settings page to search for your provider's configuration details. This page includes both IMAP and SMTP settings for a wide range of providers.
🧩 Understanding the Connections Slider
-
The Connections slider (highlighted in the image below) controls the maximum number of IMAP connections Mailbird can use at once.
-
We recommend not adjusting this setting unless you're facing connection problems or delayed email delivery.

🚀 Performance During Initial Setup
The first time you launch Mailbird, you may notice that the app runs slightly slower than expected.
This is completely normal, and occurs because Mailbird is downloading and synchronizing all of your emails, attachments, and account data in the background. Depending on the size of your inbox and the speed of your internet connection, this process can take some time.
Once the initial synchronization is complete, Mailbird’s performance will significantly improve, offering you a fast, smooth, and responsive email experience.
