In this article, we’ll walk through how to enable or disable the setting that automatically marks emails as Read in Mailbird.
By default, Mailbird marks an email as Read as soon as you click on it. If you’d prefer more control over this behavior, you can easily adjust the setting to match your workflow.
⚙️ How to Change the “Mark as Read” Setting
Follow these steps to customize when (or if) emails are marked as Read:
- Open the Mailbird menu in the top-left corner (three horizontal lines)
- Click on Settings
- Navigate to the Appearance tab
- Locate the “Mark as Read” option
- Use the slider to select your preferred delay—or disable the feature entirely by setting it to Never.
⏱️ Understanding the Delay Setting
If you set a delay between 1 and 6 seconds, keep in mind:
- You must keep the email open for the full duration
- If you switch away before the timer ends, the email will remain unread
This gives you more flexibility to preview emails without marking them as read unintentionally. You can also choose to mark messages as read Immediately or Never after you have clicked on them.
