Deleting emails
🗑️ Overview
There may be times when simply archiving an email isn’t enough — perhaps you want to permanently remove clutter or clear space from your inbox. In such cases, deleting emails is the best approach.
Mailbird provides several convenient ways to delete emails, giving you the flexibility to choose whichever method suits your workflow best.
In this article, we’ll walk you through the different ways to delete emails quickly and efficiently. Before we begin, here’s how you can locate your Trash folder in Mailbird:
- First, click on the folder icon with the + symbol.
- This will open a list of available folders and options. From there, simply select Trash to view your deleted email messages, as shown below.
âś‹ Deleting Emails Using Right-Click or a Keyboard Shortcut
One of the quickest ways to delete an email is directly from your Message List pane:
Right-click on the email or conversation you’d like to delete.
Select Trash from the menu that appears.
The email will immediately move to your Trash folder.
Alternatively, you can press the # (hash) key on your keyboard to send the selected message straight to Trash.

🧠Deleting Emails via the Scroll Action Bar
Another fast and intuitive option is to use the Scroll Action Bar — a quick-access tool that appears when you hover your mouse cursor over the profile picture or avatar of any email conversation.
When the Trash icon appears, simply click it to delete the selected message or entire conversation.
This method is ideal for users who prefer a mouse-based workflow or enjoy visually managing their inbox.
⌨️ Deleting Emails Using the Shortcut List
If you prefer working with keyboard commands, Mailbird allows you to easily view or customize the shortcut for deleting emails.
To access your list of available shortcuts:
Open the Mailbird Menu in the top-left corner (three horizontal lines).
Select Shortcuts from the dropdown list.
Alternatively, press Shift + ? to bring up the shortcut overlay.
In the search bar, type Delete to view all available shortcuts related to email deletion.
From here, you can learn (or even customize) the exact keyboard combinations that make managing your inbox lightning-fast.
⚠️ Permanently Deleting Emails
Deleting an email will move it to your Trash folder, where it remains until you empty that folder. If you’d like to learn how to permanently delete emails (so they can’t be recovered), please refer to this other article.
